We hired Mathias to build a full set of custom kitchen cabinets for our home. Our kitchen was tiny, dark, and poorly designed which was challenging for our family of seven. We researched stock cabinets from Home Depot/Lowes as well as various kitchen/remodeling companies but weren’t happy with the quality or the customization options. Our old kitchen was about 8×10’ and had 4 blind corners (two uppers and two lowers), no pantry, no place to store trash, and very little floor space. No more than two people could fit in there at a time without being really crowded. The old builder’s grade cabinets were dark and even though they were solid wood, they weren’t well made—the hinges had broken on several doors and the drawers would easily come off the rails and were difficult to put back on track. We finally concluded that custom cabinets were necessary, and a colleague referred us to Mathias. We spoke to a previous client who raved about the quality of his work and felt that he would be a good fit for our project.

He provided us with a thorough and complete estimate of the cost. This kind of project is not cheap and it takes time, but the level of craftsmanship is many times greater than any of the other cabinets we had researched (including other custom-made options.) It is absolutely worth the time and money you invest. Mathias is so talented, very detail oriented, and absolutely committed to the highest level of quality work. You know when folks say, “they don’t make things like they used to”? He does. He does not take shortcuts, period. From the precision of measuring and cutting to the wood, paint, fittings, and everything in between—it is all top notch.

Mathias designed a kitchen that is only slightly larger in square footage but has made a massive difference in functionality. The entire space is light, open, and airy. We have more storage, and it is easier for multiple people to be working at the same time. The ability to customize our cabinets meant that we got exactly what we wanted. He designed and built two gorgeous pullout pantry cabinets and installed two lazy susan-type cabinets that pull out completely so things don’t get lost in a black hole. We finally have a solution for trash, recycling, and compost. He also installed undercabinet lighting and an appliance “garage” for the coffeemaker. The wood is a beautiful domestic maple and painted with a durable conversion varnish.

We are so happy with our new kitchen. We still haven’t installed our range hood but that is in the works. It’s been several months since Mathias completed his work and we would not change a thing. I’m pretty sure one of us still says every day how much we love it and I am 100% certain our investment will pay off if we sell our home.

Since Covid, we’ve been working on extending our deck with adding an enclosed patio. When the construction of the patio was completing and after months of unsuccessfully finding a patio door that would work for our project, we decided to have one built. We were looking for an oversized, screened barn door style. We are grateful to have found Mathias who was able to design and build our vision of the door and we couldn’t be more pleased- he is exceptional! If you’re looking for a master craftsman in the Atlanta metro area you can’t go wrong with the precision and detailed skills that Mathias possesses. He’s not only highly skilled but he listens to what his clients are looking for and offers suggestions.

Mathias is a true craftsman, very meticulous and thoughtful in his work and approach. We have now used him for three projects, a custom garden gate and then on two different sets of built in bookshelves. Highly recommend.

I have always wanted a built-in floor-to-ceiling bookcase with a library ladder but I wasn’t sure that would ever come to pass. Then I met Mathias Franzreb, who had done some custom woodwork for friends of mine. Mathias captured my dream bookcase down to the very last detail and the result is better than I ever hoped it could be. The finish he suggested for the library ladder is perfect and accentuates the grain in the wood beautifully. If you are looking for custom, hand-made woodwork of impeccable quality, you cannot do any better than Mathias. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
