our story

Our founder, Mathias Franzreb, started working with wood at the age of five, inspired by family members already in the trade. What began as a childhood fascination became a calling: at sixteen, he entered a classical German apprenticeship as a joiner in Offenbach am Main, learning the craft the traditional way — working in a shop while studying in vocational school under Germany's rigorous dual-education system.

Three years later, his apprenticeship complete, Mathias chose the path of the traditional journeyman. In August 2012 he set out on his Wanderschaft, and over the next three years and eight months he traveled to more than ten countries, spending most of his time in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Canary Islands, and New Zealand. He worked everywhere the road took him, from a woodshop high in the Swiss Alps to the deck of the Alexander von Humboldt II, a tall sailing ship. With every stop, he sharpened his craft; with every mile, he learned more about himself and the world.

After a return home to Germany, the journey eventually carried him across an ocean to a woodshop in Hawai'i, and finally to Georgia. In 2019, Mathias fulfilled a lifelong dream and opened his own shop. That love of the craft — and the joy of seeing a client's vision come to life in wood — is still what drives every project, from the first sketch to the final installation.
